GALE & JAKE TEMPEL - RED ANGUS
MEET THE folks who are an integral part of 3 BRIDGES LAND & CATTLE
Tempel of Colorado Red Angus is owned and operated by Gale and son Jake. Son, Dr. Adam, DVM, also has cattle in the operation. They are the third and fourth generation owners. The “Tempel of Colorado” ranch name comes from a successful, nationally recognized registered flock of Southdown and Hampshire sheep that the Tempels’ operated from the 1960’s to 2000, along with the cattle.
The first cattle of the family were purchased in 1912 for the 1908 homestead on Ne Grande reservoir in Kiowa County by Gale’s maternal grandfather, Roscoe W. Goff. Most of the females in the herd can be traced back many generations as the have always retained their own heifer calves for replacements. Considerable emphasis and resources have been expended on using the best bulls available with a focus on light birth weight. Bulls recently used come from: Kit Pharo of CO, Frank Wedel of KS, Joe Mushrush of KS, and Mark Pieper of NE. The headquarters are located in Wiley, CO and the cattle run on shortgrass prairie pasture in Bent, Prowers, and Kiowa Counties near the Great Plains Reservoirs. |
